Vital KM
English string search problem explained

Explanation:

  • If the words are separated with an underline (_), the KM system cannot succeed in finding them

Cause factor analysis:

  • Chinese file names are not a problem
  • Due to hyphenation, the search engine will determine English file names with an underline on each side as only one word instead of two (English can only be searched by words, not letters. The underline is distinguished as an English letter.)
  • After actual testing, “*” can be added to the end of any English word as a wildcard character
  • The same case goes for Google Search

Analysis description:

Search example 1:

File name: 2010&2011Q1_Fype_Report.txt

Search: “2010” and “2011Q1_Fype” can be successfully searched

Search: “2011*” and “2011Q1*” can be successfully searched

Fail to search: “Fype”

Suggested solution:

  • Use a space to separate characters/words when using English file names
  • Enter individual words in “meta” or “tag” instead
